Accessibility Statement

Compliance status

The website DiVerse — A Digital Archive of Women’s Poetry in Italy (1945-2000) (https://www.diversearchive.com/) is partially compliant with the requirements set out by European standard EN 301 549 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, due to the non-conformities and/or exemptions listed below.

Accessibility features of the website

The website has been designed following an accessibility by design approach. The main features implemented are:

  • Semantic HTML structure with correct use of landmarks (header, nav, main, footer, article, section)
  • Full keyboard navigation for all interactive elements
  • Skip link to jump directly to the main content
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Alternative text for images and non-textual content
  • Labels and instructions for all search form fields
  • Compliant contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Responsive design that adapts to different devices and zoom levels (up to 400%)
  • Screen reader compatibility (ARIA landmarks, aria-label, aria-expanded, aria-live)
  • Support for the user’s reduced motion preference
  • Mobile menu with focus trap and focus restoration on close
  • Breadcrumbs with semantic markup (aria-current)

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons.

Disproportionate burden

Pursuant to Article 5 of EU Directive 2016/2102, the following content is excluded due to disproportionate burden:

  • Interactive map of locations: the map, built on the open-source Leaflet library, has keyboard navigation limitations inherent to the technology used. Completely redesigning the map component would constitute a disproportionate burden relative to the expected benefits. A textual equivalent is provided: the complete list of locations with their respective links is available in the section below the map.
  • Archival PDF documents: the website contains digitised documents of a historical-archival nature (scans of texts, covers, period materials) whose full conversion to accessible format would require a disproportionate investment of resources, given the volume and nature of the materials. The metadata and contextual information for each document are available in accessible format on the related pages of the website.

Third-party content

The following content falls outside the scope of the applicable legislation as it is not developed, funded, or under the control of the content provider:

  • Embedded YouTube videos: the availability of subtitles and audio description depends on the content originally published on the third-party platform.
  • OpenStreetMap maps: the map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap and are not under the control of the content provider.
